The temple is hall, five-nave and was built in the 14th century. From the 16th century until its destruction in 1945, it was an evangelical church. In 1957, it was handed over to the Catholic Church, which began its reconstruction.
Despite frequent destruction, many interesting monuments have been preserved in the basilica. The most valuable is a seven-branched candlestick from 1327. It was made by Jan Apongheter from Göttingen and weighs 900 kg. Its height is 4 m and the arm span is 3.8 m. It is one of five Gothic candelabra preserved in the world. It resembles a Jewish menorah, but differs in that it is made of several pieces of bronze, while a menorah is made of one piece of gold.
