Originally, the Museum was established as a regional museum. The basis of the collection are archaeological artifacts from excavations in the area of early medieval Kołobrzeg conducted by prof. Lech Leciejewicz and several monuments from the pre-war museum, excavated from the rubble by the distinguished tourism activist Jan Frankowski.
