On March 18, 1945, the day of the capture of Kołobrzeg, the symbolic Wedding of Poland and the Sea took place here.
This event and the military units involved in the capture of the city are commemorated by a monumental monument unveiled on November 3, 1963. Its author is the sculptor Wiktor Tołkin, and you can find it on Jan Szymański Boulevard.
The monument is stylized as a flag held by a group of soldiers. On its walls you will see mosaics and sculptures reminding us of the thousand-year tradition of Polish weapons in Pomerania. Also note the gap symbolizing the "window to the world". According to legend, if you walk through the gap without breathing, your wish will come true.
